The Mercedes-Benz Actros has always been a landmark in the world of trucking, given its outstanding design, streamlined technical capabilities and, essentially, how trustworthy this machine is. In comes the Mercedes-Benz Actros 2011, an all-new truck, which was built under the premise of “Trucks you can trust.” Indeed, you can fully trust the Actros with transporting your merchandise and staff across counties, borders and vast landscapes, for it is technologically impeccable and better looking than ever. This is the result of the incredible amount of testing and fine tuning that has gone into producing this vehicle. It spent over 2,600 hours in the wind tunnel, the engine was tested on rigs and in real life over the course of 50 million kilometres. Before offering these trucks for sale, the company had them spend twenty million kilometres on the road. To boot, it is also one of the most eco-friendly vehicles in its class, as it rigorously complies with the Euro 6 emission standard. So, what should you expect from this unexpectedly exceptional vehicle?
Beauty on the Outside
It’s generally easy to spot a Mercedes truck on the road, no matter how far away it is. It’s not the oversized logo, either. It’s the smooth lines of its cabin and the sleek overall aspect of the truck. For the 2011 model of the Actros, the producers decided to do away with almost all its straight lines and flat surfaces. Instead, these were replaced with a slightly curvy look, which completely becomes the truck.
Comfort on the Inside
This is one comfy truck, since its cabin comes in at either 2.3 meters or 2.5 meters. The roof is available in no fewer than four different variants. The maximum length is 2.3 meters. The modular system of the cab produces a choice of seven different models, one more comfortable than the other. Five of the seven models feature a flat floor, while the workspace and living area are clearly separated by different color ranges.
Exceptional Engine Power
For the launch of this model, Mercedes Benz wholly redesigned the heavy duty engines that propel them across roads worldwide. One model was specifically engineered for use in Europe – the Mercedes-Benz OM 471, a six-cylinder in-line unit, which employs state-of-the-art technology in order to meet the Euro 6 standard for emissions. This engine only requires maintenance every 150,000 kilometers, with free
car servicing, which makes it exceptionally robust and durable.
Chassis Safety
The chassis, too, was redesigned for the 2011 Actros, based on a ride-comfort concept. The Mercedes-Benz HL6 hypoid rear axle was relocated for optimized use. The new geometry displayed by the chassis, the lines of action that intersect below the axle and the four-bellows air suspension system help make any ride a pleasure ride. Like the previous model, this one, too, features several safety and assistance systems, which include the Lane Keeping Assist, the Stability Control Assist and the Active Brake Assist, which provides autonomous emergency braking upon detecting obstacles ahead.
