The topic for today is "caring for the elderly." It's been said that we
are an adult only once and a child twice. This statement can only be
truly appreciated by someone who has taken care of an elderly person who
was very difficult. With millions upon millions of baby boomers
heading into their 60's and 70's, it is time for America to proactively
get ready or suffer the unkind alternatives.
This special
guest says that her grandmother told her once, "God makes teenagers and
the elderly mean on purpose-otherwise, their families would never be
able to let them go." That may be true, but it offers little comfort
when you're the one who has to survive caring for your aging parent. She
did more than just live to tell about it, she has written a book, which
will no doubt become a 'must have' resource to many of us.
If you have an elderly parent, or someday might have one, then you
may need to prepare for unreasonable demands, obsession, depression,
manipulation, distrust, and hostility, so my word of advice to you while
is PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to this interview.
