The Skinny on Credit Cards is the story of Billy and Beth, a typical
American couple, as they struggle with the use (and abuse) of their
credit cards. Our story also looks at their 18 year old son, Jake, a
college freshman who loves the idea of having his own credit cards.
Through their experiences, we learn about the incredible convenience,
heartache and commentary generated by that little piece of plastic.
There
are now about 700 million active credit cards in the U.S. – that’s 2
cards for every man, woman and child. Total credit card debt is about
$1 trillion, with an average of $9,000 per household. WOW! We’ve
identified the 100 or so most important points you need to know – and
they are all in our story. Our book uncovers the predatory marketing
and lending protocols adopted by some of the credit card issuers, and
examines irresponsible borrowing and money management by consumers.
Our
goal is to educate you. We believe that if you understand the rules of
the game, the principles of credit card use (and potential abuse), then
the decisions you make about credit and debt will hopefully be good
ones which make your life better and more enjoyable.

Jim Randel has created a useful, interesting and entertaining guide about a subject which makes for any ideal present for son's, daughters and grandchildren graduating from high school and headed on university -- or, heaven forbid, those currently as much as their necks in credit card debt.
Let's face the facts -- a lot of college books (esp. in business) are boring and almost painful to read and study. They're written in a stilted academic style and therefore are usually centered on wide, theoretical sights instead of the practical, up-to-date issues we encounter in our daily lives. Randel understands this and it has carved a niche in this posting market that will assist him, and his readers, well. And, while I figured the stick determine illustrations will make for any absurd and distracting way to emphasize text, I was very pleasantly surprised to find -- instead -- they make the narrative much easier to read and digest. (Speculate it's a left-brain, right-brain factor!)
I love how Randel provides in knowledge of others in the field, providing insightful quotes from writers: Dave Ramsey, (The Total Cash Makeover) Hary Eker (Secrets of the Millionaire Thoughts) Robert Manning (Credit Card Country) James Scurlock (At their maximum: Hard Times in the Age of Simple Credit score) Liz Pulliam Weston (Your credit rating) and Suze Orman (utes 2009 Plan of action). Clearly, since this is a sort of who's-who within the area, he's in good company!
Main point here? It's an enjoyable, yet comprehensive study of the credit card issues facing people who are respected and practical. For the best remedy -- whilst it may be study in just a couple of hours -- I prescribe maintaining it bedroom and reading through it in doses of 10-15 minutes at a time. Then, come out the light and imagine monetary self-reliance!
Highly recommended for open public, college and army base library selections and for present-giving by banking institutions, monetary organizers, Certified public accountants Company, parents.
